Pats Player Busted for Pot

Just because a guy plays professional football and is on the payroll of the New England Patriots, don’t assume he can make ends meet. How else to explain the arrest of defensive back Willie Andrews, charged with possession of marijuana and intent to distribute?

Oh yeah . . . and Andrews got popped while driving an unregistered car. (Is it the $40 registration fee, Willie? Surely Tom Brady could spot you a pair of Andrew Jacksons . . .)

Police pulled over Andrews yesterday shortly after an anonymous caller (probably a Giants fan) reported “potential drug activity in a black motor vehicle.” The DB had $6,800 in cash and three bags of weed; he pled not guilty to the charges and was released on personal cognizance.

Obviously, the combination of Andrews’ entrepreneurial instinct and the Pats’ Super Bowl loss explains it. He was simply tapping into what became a very, very big market overnight in New England thanks to his team’s primo choke job: people in need of some escape and a little something to help them forget . . .
