Paul Spadafora’s Roller Coaster Ride Continues

Last week here at jabandgrapple.com we remembered the “Pittsburgh Kid” Paul Spadafora and wished him luck on his second comeback to the ring. His Friday bout in Erie versus punching bag Shad Howard went well.
Spadafora, now sporting longer hair, many more tattoos and, according to the Meadville Tribune, a torn knee ligament destroyed his overmatched opponent outscoring Howard 80-72 on all three judges scorecards in the eight round bout. Click here for a snazzy audio slideshow of the fight.
Sadly Spaddy didn’t have much time to enjoy his victory. Four days later he was arrested in Erie.
And yes, it did involve his former girlfriend…the one he spent 13 months in jail for shooting in 2003. Spaddy violated a protection from abuse order by meeting with his former beau at a motel near Erie sometime after the fight.
But, but wait. It’s not all bad news for Paul as today the Erie County district attorney’s office dropped the charges on account of the alleged victim driving 100 miles to meet with Spadafora. The Assistant D.A. Erin Connelly explained to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, “For prosecution purposes I can prove that he violated, but I find it hard to believe that she is in fear.”
So Spaddy, we beseech you: STAY OUT OF TROUBLE! We want to see you return to top form, we want you to build on your undefeated record (now 41-0-1), we want to see you become a champion again, and we want to see you on national television.
Maybe even a future ESPN2 Wednesday Night Fights whose headliner tonight features up-and-coming 23-year-old middleweight Colombian Joel Julio (32-1) against former The Contender contestant Ishe Smith. Can Smith start the week off right for Contender contestants and pave the way for a Steve Forbes upset? Tune in to see.
