Dani Pedrosa must have seen the clouds part and the sun shine through Sunday as he crossed the finish line of the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix held at iconic Laguna Seca first, after a year long drought that last saw him drink from the victory cup at Catalunya last season. Dani had jumped into the lead from the four hole of the starting grid and managed to stay ahead of a field of world class competitors that included current Grand Prix World Champion Valentino Rossi.

Valentino Rossi comes second this time
It has been a long year and an even longer recovery for Dani, who has had to deal with a rash of injuries that has left him unable to race at his best, but he seems to be feeling better, and hopefully this result is just the beginning of a nice run for this young racer. He seemed to be at home in the lead of the race at Laguna Seca, he stretched his lead once he started to get comfortable, and despite Valentino Rossi managing to close the gap on the last lap, never looked like he was threatened.
Dani of course has a long way to go before he has enough points to challenge for the world championship, but at least he has seen the sun, and knows that its just over the horizon, he just has to go get it. The current Grand Prix World Champion and 2009 MotoGP points leader, Valentino Rossi, finished just behind Dani, so he didn’t loose any ground. In fact, he gained ground over his closest competition, Jorge Lorenzo and Casey Stoner, who finished third and fourth respectively.
Jorge Lorenzo despite riding with an injured shoulder had a chance to overtake Rossi with just four laps remaining, but didn’t execute his move properly, which resulted in his third place finish. Casey Stoner actually ran with the leaders for most of the race, but just couldn’t stay with the leaders through the final stages of the race, and faltered to finish fourth.
