Percy Harvin, the wide receiver the Minnesota Vikings selected in the first round, became ill when traveling to the team’s rookie minicamp. He was in the city of Atlanta changing planes when he became ill. He was tested for swine flu at the hospital but tests were negative.

Harvin was eventually diagnosed with a virus and a bad case of dehydration. The Vikings said that the wide receiver will likely spend the next couple days in the hospital before returning to his Florida home. Head coach Brad Childress said that Harvin’s illness is likely due to all of the travel, pressure and exhaustion that accompanies the draft process.
“It’s an unfortunate circumstance,” said Childress, “but it is what it is.”
Once healthy, the Vikings hope that Harvin will be able to be the wide receiver the team has lacked the last few years. He has very good speed and quickness, although he’ll need to work on his route running to become an elite wideout in the NFL.
