Permanent Washington, D.C. ADIZ
For only the third time in ten years, The Aircraft Owners and Pilot’s Association is calling on their 406,000 members to take action. The FAA is threatening to make the temporary Washington ADIZ a permanent airspace feature leading the way to creating ADIZ airspace not only in Washington, but in all Class B airspace nationwide.
“The threat is very real,” said AOPA President Phil Boyer. “If the FAA makes the Washington, D.C., ADIZ permanent, it will set a dangerous precedent, creating the possibility of IFR-like flight restrictions within the footprint of every Class B airspace.”
Quick Trivia… Was the Washington ADIZ created in response to the September 11th attacks? No, it was created one weekend in February of 2003 as a temporary response to elevated threat levels. ADIZ operations cost the FAA $11,000,000.00 each year!
