Peter Jackson & Halo

Peter Jackson and his LOTR crew are officially producing the movie version of Microsoft’s hit video game: Halo.

Rumors have been circulating, and will likely continue to circulate as to the who’s, how’s, and what’s of the movie, but at last it’s official that Peter Jackson will be its Executive Producer. Who’s to direct it? I do not know. Who’s to act in it? I do not know. But I’m really hoping that Gollum has a cameo role.

The movie was scheduled for worldwide release in mid-2007 by Universal Pictures and Twentieth Century Fox, ABC said.

The film would be shot in Jackson’s production and post-production facilities in Wellington.

“I’m a huge fan of the game and look forward to helping it come alive on the cinema screen,” Jackson said in a statement.

The executive producers would collaborate with Microsoft’s Bungie Studios, which created the game as the best-selling franchise for Microsoft’s Xbox game console.

Who’s excited?

Err… well… on the one hand, Peter Jackson… on the other hand, Halo.

    Hm.

No. Can’t say that I’m particularly excited. But I can see why Halo fans would be.

  1. [...] Well, if Peter Jackson is doing it, then why shouldn’t Stephen Spielberg? Mr. E.T. himself is teaming up with Electronic Arts to develop three new video games. Count them: un, deux, trois. Spielberg, a video game enthusiast and co-founder of movie studio DreamWorks SKG, will work with EA’s Los Angeles studio on the concept, story and design of the games. [...]
