NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.

Asante Samuel may try on a different helmet next year for the cash

Asante Samuel (BARRY CHIN/GLOBE STAFF)It is the Pro Bowl and a lot of recruiting goes on.

Peyton talking to Asante Samuel is not out of the ordinary.

The real reason this is mentioned has to do with the 80 million bucks the San Francisco 49′ers gave to Nate Clements last year.

Peyton’s Colts may not have that kind of cash, but Peyton talked anyway. There is always the lure of the Championship ring.

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning did some recruiting this week at the Pro Bowl.

Really, though, it was more “anti-recruiting.”

“I kept telling (New England cornerback) Asante (Samuel), ‘Yeah, come play for us,’ ” Manning said, jokingly, after the NFC defeated the AFC 42-30 in the annual all-star game Sunday at Aloha Stadium. “But I told him if he doesn’t sign with us, he needs to go to the NFC.” source

The Patriots are Asante’s team right now, but they manage the salary cap like no other team.

You have seen it time and time again, when the choice is between playing for the proven winner like the Patriots or Colts, or playing for the cash, the player will take the cash.

Expect to see Asante move on for the cash.
