Peyton Manning vs. Rex Grossman, oh come on, whatever

NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.

Rex discusses the Sub Sandwich he had last night

Rex Grossman (AP Photo/M. Spencer Green) It has come to your intrepid writer’s attention that the Indianapolis Colts have a better quarterback than the Chicago Bears. Oh, really?

Hmm, you are saying that Peyton Manning is better than Rex Grossman? Oh, really?

So we should just stop right now and give the Super Bowl trophy to the Colts, right?

No, it seems that history shows us that the best quarterback performance does not necessarily result in the winning team.

Last year Ben Roethlisberger basically underperformed in the Super Bowl. He had two interceptions and 0 touchdown passes. That’s right 0 touchdown passes.

Rex’s coach sees it differently

”Is it fair to Rex? Yes, it’s fair to Rex,” Smith said. ”I mean, he’s the quarterback on the opposing team. Each week it is the same formula — our offense has to outperform their offense, our defense has to play better than their defense. Our quarterback has to play better than their quarterback. I have to coach better than their coach. It’s the same formula each week. As far as the stage and all of that, we’ve handled that. But that’s what it will come down to.
”So we give Peyton Manning all the respect that he deserves. He’s a great player, and I’ve known him for a long time. But we expect Rex to lead us to a win.” source

But Lovie, Peyton threw for 31 touchdown passes (an off year for him) and only 9 interceptions and averaged a quarterback rating of 101.

How can you compare that to Rex Grossman’s 23 touchdown passes with 20 interceptions and a quarterback rating of 73.9 ?

Lovie does not have to answer. Coach Smith has stuck with Rex no matter what.

But none of this journey through the pros has been easy. He played the apprentice role his first year, missed virtually all of 2004 and ‘05 with injuries. He came back in time to flop in the 2005 playoffs. Yet despite that, Bears coach Lovie Smith — the anti-Spurrier — gave Grossman the job to start 2006 and stayed with him the whole way. source

So, in honor of the Trent Dilfer’s, the Jeff Hostetler’s, even the Joe Kapp’s (put that one in for the old timers), Rex will go out and try to win the game for the Bears.

If it was always the best stats that won the games, then Peyton would already have plenty of rings from past Super Bowls.

Yeah, Peyton may be the incredible passing machine, but Rex just wants to win 1 game!

NFL Football Fan Question Does Rex have enough to get the job done?

By the way, the picture of Rex….I think he was responding to the comment that Peyton said he was a better qb because he had a bigger “package”. It had nothing to do with sandwiches. Do your research, get your facts straight. By the way, what is your prediction for the game oh wise blogmaster?

  2. Geoff Young says:

I’ve been doubting the Bears all season long but they just keep winning. I think Rex has enough to get the job done as long as his teammates keep doing what they’ve been doing. But I’m hoping Peyton will get a ring.

  3. James says:

My prediction will come later in the week. of course, Ron B, you can call me and get it at any time.
Geoff, come clean, Peyton beat the Pats and nothing, except maybe the Chargers beating the Pats, could make you feel better.

  4. Geoff Young says:

No, believe it or not, I’m over the Patriots. I love that they lost by blowing a big lead, but now the silence of their fans is enough for me. I genuinely think Peyton is a great player who takes way too much grief for not having a championship ring and I’d like to see him get that monkey off his back.

  5. James says:

The little kid in us never goes away. That is why sports is so cool! A ring for Peyton would be fitting for his legacy as one of the all time greats. Put me in the hero worship club as well!
