If you’ve ever felt exhausted at the end of your workout and slightly guilty for skipping a few days, you’re not alone. Even the champions are sore after missing a few–or a few months–of their workouts.

The star of the Beijing Olympics, swimmer Michael Phelps, resumed his training routine this week, after five months of touring the world, co-writing a book, and soaking in the glory of having won a record eight Gold Medals at the Beijing Games. In his own words (to the “Associated Press”), “I’m in a world of pain right now. Literally every part of my body is hurting.”

Phelps is back in his hometown of Baltimore, but is still training with longtime coach, Bruce Bowman. Phelps has his eye on the London Games in 2012 as the last meet of his career, but what events he’ll compete in before that remain undecided. He did say that Beijing was the last eight-event meet of his career.
