Phil Hellmuth Enters WSOP as Julius Caesar

It’s become a tradition for Phil Hellmuth to make a late but attention grabbing entrance to the WSOP. That tradition is alive and well. Check out the video below. Hellmuth, who is now the ambassador of poker, made his entrance to the WSOP Main Event day 1c as Julius Caesar. He was carried to the door by four men while awkwardly laying on his side. Then entered the casino flanked by painted women throwing flower pedals on him.
I would call it a grand entrance but it looked more awkward than it did spectacular. I’m sure there will be some debate about whether or not this was a good thing. Believe it or not, I don’t think Phil was in it for Phil (at least directly). He does have a nice sized ego, but I think this act was more for attention to poker and secondly his sponsor, Ultimate Bet.
The good is that this gets everybody talking (working already) and will have more people cognizant of the WSOP. The bad is that it detracts somewhat from what poker is all about – playing cards. I wouldn’t do it, but I wouldn’t do a lot of things Hellmuth does. Hellmuth is now becoming bigger than poker and entering the celeb stratosphere.
I just hope I can land a video of when he gets eliminated from the WSOP in 3,427th place.
