Philip Rivers in College

This weekend is thought by many to be the most exciting weekend in football. Of course, there aren’t any college games going on – it is all about the NFL playoffs. (*Insert debate about college ball needing a playoff system here*) I thought it would be fun to look back on the top 8 teams’ quarterbacks. What were they like in college?

 Philip Rivers

Philip Rivers, San Diego
In college at North Carolina State, Rivers was a golden boy. He started in the QB position all four years, having a record 51 starts during his time there. He shattered dozens of NC State and ACC records for passing and took his team to three bowl game wins. In 2004, he was named ACC Athlete of the Year. In the draft that year, he was part of the infamous Eli Manning Chargers fiasco. Although the Chargers wanted number one pick Manning, he refused to sign with them, so they instead traded picks with the Giants, where Manning wanted to play. Rivers was picked fourth in the draft overall by the Giants to facilitate this trade, and many experts believe that they should instead taken Ben Roethlisberger, who went to Pittsburgh.
