Picasa Web Albums Optimized for iPhone

Picasa has now joined Google’s iPhone optimized site list with a redesign. You can login in to view all of your albums you have uploaded to Picasa, even displaying the comments. You can additionally view a slideshow of your photos or even use the search feature to find a photo. Want to view a friend’s album you can do it though favorites.

On a related topic, why is it that companies are creating iPhone optimized websites? That was asked by a fellow Powncer. As he said, wasn’t the point of the iPhone to view the full Internet and not a scaled down version. My take on this is that the optimized websites are simply created out of convenience. Why view the entire website to find something or use a feature when you can use an optimized version that in most cases will have just what you need.
