Plan B One-Step Approved by FDA

The United States Food and Drug Administration recently approved another emergency contraceptive. Plan B One-Step, a product of Teva Pharmaceutical Industries, promises to help women prevent unintended pregnancies.

According to Teva Pharmaceutical Industries, one tablet following contraceptive failure or unprotected sex will drastically lower the chances of pregnancy. For women under of the age of 17 will need a prescription to get the drug. Women of all other ages will reportedly have over the counter access.

Said Amy Niemann of Teva Pharmaceutical Industries: “As a leader in women’s health, we’re proud to offer women this new, innovative emergency contraceptive option that builds upon the trust that women have come to know with Plan B®. Emergency contraception is more effective the sooner it’s taken, and with Plan B® One-Step women can now act quickly and take it right away when the unexpected happens.”

The drug is expected to hit pharmacies within the next 30 days.
