Plaxico Burress is headed to prison for two years thanks to pleading guilty to a gun charge in New York. Burress faced at least three and a half years in prison if he would have taken the case to trial.
While Burress could be eligible to get out of prison in 20 months, his NFL football career may be over. The 32-year-old will miss the next two NFL seasons and then may face an additional suspension after his release. There likely won’t be a market for a 34- or 35-year-old wide receiver who has been out of the league for years.
If this is the end, it was a quick fall from grace for Burress. In the 2007 playoffs, Burress caught the winning touchdown in the Super Bowl as the Giants shocked the world and beat the New England Patriots.
So far in his career, Burress has 505 receptions and 55 touchdowns in nine years. Thanks to the fateful night in the New York night club that ended in Burress shooting himself in the leg, Burress could forever be a former NFL player.
