Plus-Size “Bachelor” Type Show Premieres

The Bachelorette just wrapped up another season this week but fans of the popular ABC show don’t have to wait for the romantic reality TV show to return. Fox has debuted their own version of the show but with a twist – instead of the buff, ideal physiques you find on The Bachelor and The Bachelorette, this new program features plus-sized people.
More to Love premiered last night and I will say that I felt compelled to tune in. Luke Conley is 26 years old, weighs more than 300 pounds (but he really does carry it well so it must be the height – he’s 6’3”) and is a successful sub-contractor and real estate investor. The former college football offensive lineman is looking for love and, fortunately, 20 women were willing to put themselves out there in hopes of finding a lasting relationship.
It was interesting because, for the most part, this was just like any other episode of The Bachelor but the main difference was in how so many of the women had never had a boyfriend or even been on a date. For the most part, the ladies were beautiful so it was sad to me to hear that their weight had prevented them from enjoying a full life. Some were dressed really elegantly but, just like their thinner counterparts, others had on trashier fare.
In the end, I have to say that I enjoyed the show a lot. I didn’t think I would since I don’t normally like this sort of thing. Maybe I feel like I need to support a show like this. With so many in North America struggling with their weight, it’s about time a reality show included people with a little “more to love.”
More to Love airs Tuesday nights. Check your local listings for times.
