Another product showcased during the Office 2.0 Conference 2008 was the Plutext. Currently under development, Plutext is an open-source project that will bring simultaneous editing  and collaboration with MS Word documents. This is a plugin installed to MS Word and will be available under the “Review” tab.

There are building 2 distinct solutions:

  • a system to support simultaneous editing of Word documents
  • a cross platform WYSIWYG editor for docx Word documents (which you can try right now)

Both solutions rely on docx4j, our package for creating, opening, editing and printing OOXML docx (WordprocessingML) files in Java.

The projects are related, in that you can use docx4all to collaborate on Word documents. Or you can use it standalone.

For more details about the project, please click here. And if you want to try it, download it from here.
