Pocketmod
I just ran across pocketmod.com last night. It’s a flash application that lets you build a tiny little paper-based organizer. Each organizer is made of a single sheet of paper and can be customized in a number of ways. It’s super simple and really pretty cool. When I showed my wife the application, she immediately recognized the format as one that she’d instructed her middle-school students to use for book reports and other projects. Which was helpful to me because she already knew how to do the funky cut-and-fold procedure.
I’m thinking the pocketmod might be a really useful tool for places like job fairs or similar events where you want to record a few quick notes and pick up some business cards. Unless you’re a digital jedi, pen and paper is still a faster recording method than using a PDA. Post-event, the pocketmod (or two) would be a self-contained record of the event and could just be tossed in your inbox for further processing. With pockets for business cards and templates for ToDo list and various calendars, everything would be ready to move to your calendar system or wherever else it might belong. Cool.
Great stuff. Thanks for sharing Bren. I hadn’t heard of this before, so I checked it out tonight and found it very useful. Combine it with PDF995 and you can create a template to share with others, or keep going back to the site and create new sheets, all for free.
This is similar to what my science writing prof showed us, if you were out in the field taking notes and you only had one sheet of paper instead of your trusty notebook.

This is a beuatiful hack that I am going to use in my roll as a system architecht. I have made my own model with a a datamodel, calendar, databasestructure and some other goodies.
So, this thursday I’m going to test it to the max, flying to the customer with not a computer, but with three pocketmods instead.
I’m really living on the edge, huh?
