Poker Re-Buy Nights Can Hurt

Sometimes re-buys go good and other times they can hurt you. Bonerack’s hosted another $20 buy-in last night. I played recklessly horrible (sometimes reckless pays off) and while I won a few smaller pots, I never won any significant pots. By the end of the night I spent $60 and was out in second place. I’m very disappointed in myself.
What really hurt me was three times I picked a pot to be mine and three times I went up against someone who had a made hand (or at least wouldn’t budge off their cards). The end of my night actually came with my second best hand all evening – AJ off.
I was in the big blind and second position raised double the blind. The player to the right of me called and I called. The flop came Axx but every card was a club. Action was checked to me and I bet 2,500 which was over 4x the big blind. Raiser calls me and player to the right folds. The next card is 8 of hearts. Assuming my opponent was on a flush draw I went all in. He called with a King high flush or in other words he flopped the nut flush.
He played that hand to perfection. His ever tricky double the big blind raise prevented me from raising with a lower top hand. Hard to tell what he had. Then, he had a dream flop. On top of that I played my hand wrong. Hopefully I can get in a few more home tournaments per month to regain my form.

Hey Kris – I drove a huge stack into the ground by playing too tightly. We ended up ended up practically ending the game with all 3 of the last players all in. BoneRack’s 8s vs my 10’s vs Big Craig’s A-Q. I tried to iso BoneRack’s all-in by going over the top all-in, but since Craig was guarenteed 2nd by having a larger stack than Pete, he called my re-raise.
His thinking was all he had to do was beat Pete to make good money. A queen came on the turn, which gave him something like 95% of all the chips. I was all-in next hand. Craig wins.
Hey Bob,
Thanks for the update. I’m not sure if I call there if I’m Craig. I guess it depends on how far away Pete was with chips, but I could see AQ easily being dominated by your hand in that scenario.
