Politics and Business a Deadly Mixture?

What kind of effect do you think politics has on the way people see you? Is it worth voicing your opinion around colleagues? With Super Tuesday coming up, I wanted to see what people think about this. Here is my personal view on politics…
Arguing politics accomplishes as much as arguing religion. People have already made up their mind about it. While discussion can be constructive, informative, and interesting, it can also turn bitter real fast.
Put things into perspective – what are you accomplishing? Do you expect someone to stop and say “well, you are right. I guess I will convert my opinion.” Long story short, I don’t think it is worth it. What do you all think?

This is a fabulous question!
It’s really interesting on two levels – will your political beliefs “turn off” your colleagues? and perhaps more importantly – will your political beliefs “turn off” your potential clients?
It’s a tough issue. At the office, we talk politics a great deal. It can get heated. Post 9/11 was particularly dicey.
But I have to be more careful outside of the office. I work in a conservative field with conservative clients. I am, er, not so conservative. Offending clients, or potential clients, is a risk. I have to watch my blog, my letters to the editor, etc.
I’d love to hear how others deal with this!
I consider that bad politicians can have a permanent and deadly effect on business through lying, manipulation and greed at the highest levels which, in turn can have a deadly effect on human beings everywhere.
IMO – it sure as he** needs to be openly discussed and thoroughly… and… LOUDLY!!!
