Today’s poll stems from a curiosity of mine about you guys and gals. How long have you been freelancing full-time? Answer the poll question below to weigh in and help me learn a little more about the people reading this website.

If you have a part-time job, but could give it up (ie, you do it for pleasure, not for money) AND still make at least 75% of your income through freelancing, please consider yourself a full-time freelancer.
Otherwise, consider yourself part-time!
(For example, I work about 15-20 hours a week at a local day care center, but I do it to get out of the house and spend time with children, not because I need the additional money.)
It’s still weird to be to realize how long I’ve been doing this full time. Wasn’t I just a college student writing a few $5 articles every week for a little spending cash? (For those wondering, I’ve approaching my 3 year anniversary as a full-time freelancer, and have been freelancing part-time and full-time, in total, for about 5 years now.)
How my world has changed since my first assignment! I remember it well, actually – a group of 15 articles about crafts for a web content company. They were about a page long and I got paid $4 each for them. Today, I laugh at that price, but at the time, I thought it was awesome that someone was willing to pay me to write at all! My first job when I went full-time was writing a letter of complaint for this secretary who felt she got wrongly fired. It was maybe 6 – 8 pages long, and I got paid $50 for it, by check. Again, today, I laugh at that rate, but I almost wish I had that check to frame it, since it was the first money I ever got living on my own, independent of my parents.
What was your first job as a freelancer?
