Post for the holiday weekend

Well it’s officially the weekend thanks to it being Easter and all.

So to celebrate both a 4-day weekend and the launch of this brand spanking new b5 blog (if that weren’t enough), I thought I’d do the obvious thing, and explain the Rules of Cricket.

  • You have two sides: One out in the field and one in.
  • Each man that’s in the side that’s in goes out and when he’s out he comes in and the next man goes in until he’s out.
  • When they are all out the side that’s out comes in and the side that’s been in goes out and tries to get those coming in out.
  • Sometimes you get men still in and not out.
  • When both sides have been in and out including the not outs,
  • That’s the end of the game.

All clear? Questions? Have a great weekend. :)

    WTF?!!!!

    That’s like…

You win a swimming race by first not swimming, and then swimming until you’re not swimming anymore. The race is over when nobody’s swimming. Even if people are still in the pool.

    :p

Man, my head was spinning trying to make sense of the point Jeremy cited above. I’ve been trying to understand cricket for years now, and I just discovered that all I needed was someone to point it out to me verbally.

Maybe a video “tutorial” might help greatly? I mean, it’s a lot lot easier to understand than written text. :-)

  6. Sasha says:

I can imagine it now… Matt in front of the camera making gestures to “teach” how Cricket is played. Oh, joy. Heehee.

    I do a mean Geoffrey Boycott impression… ;)

  8. Jon says:

What does it mean when they say the bowler made the bal talk

  9. SixandOut says:

Most likely they were referring to a very good delivery, such that they did something extraordinary with the ball… like making it talk…

  10. Stickiewicket says:

    Seems quite interesting.

  1. [...] To celebrate, I’ll clear up just what the ballyhell is going on with the name of this blog. For the uninitiated, you might want to read the Rules of Cricket. Essentially you use a cricket bat to hit a cricket ball to score runs. Now, if you hit the ball over the boundary (out of the ground) on the full (without hitting the ground) then you score 6 runs. The players find the ball and play continues. But as a child playing “back yard cricket” on barmy Summer evenings with a couple of mates (or in my case my big bro), it is common practice to adjust the rules somewhat to allow for the fact there are only a few players.
