PR Advice from another b5 Blogger

Proving that I’m not the only blogger at b5media who understands public relations. Shannon (Makeup Minute) has ventured into PR advice this week.
Shannon writes about her experiences as a beauty blogger in Product Pimping to Bloggers: A how-to guide for publicists, on the Pierce Mattie PR blog. She lays out the ground rules for approaching bloggers. She warns against mass e-mails, empty flattery and repeated queries about whether the pitch will lead to coverage.
She suggests doing some homework about the blogger, acting professionally, and making sure there is clear communication about your expectations and those of the blogger. Oh, and responding to requests promptly helps, too.
There’s also a good discussion in the comments on another post of the difference between free product samples for beauty bloggers, and the Microsoft laptop giveaway that has drawn a lot of criticism.
