PR Voices Does a Decent Job of Scanning PR Posts

I check in on PR Voices every few days, just to see if it’s catching things I’m not seeing elsewhere. So far, it’s doing a good job of highlighting at least 2-3 good posts each day I wouldn’t have noticed otherwise.

PR VoicesUnlike some other sites that rely on people to submit their favorite links (or more likely, links that help them or their friends promote their sites), PR Voices uses an algorithm to sift through the hundreds of PR-related posts each day and serve up 15 worth checking out.

Like Techmeme, it tends to highlight some of the same old bloggers regularly. Also like Techmeme, it also finds posts from a wide range of people that are attracting attention. They don’t explain exactly what factors help a post make it onto their list, but I’m assuming they use rankings of traffic, number of comments, number of links to a blog or a post, and number of links from a blog to other high-ranking blogs probably helps move something up the rankings.

A considerable minority of posts are from blogs or news sites I don’t consider typical public relations sources, and don’t necessarily cover PR or business communications topics. However, there’s usually some kind of marketing angle to the items, which is close enough for most people.

What’s interesting is that some of the more personal, less business-oriented posts are highlighted on a regular basis. I wonder if that is built into the sorting parameters, or if it’s just a reflection of the fact that personal posts tend to get quite a few comments from regular readers of a blog.

For someone who’s all business, that might make the selection less useful, but I actually like the human element that shows up.

It’s still not a daily visit, but I’ll continue checking PR Voices regularly.
