The votes are in, and BBC News reports that the top 5 technologies predicted to go big in 2008 are…
- The web to go – Ubiquitous, mobile Internet connectivity
- Ultra mobile PCs – The power of a PC in the convenience of a PDA-size device, or close to it
- IPTV – Internet protocol (IP) television, rather than cable or satellite, for instance
- Wimax – High-speed broadband Internet delivered over a large distance
- Mobile VoIP – Mobile Internet phone service, like Vonage for a cell phone
Would any of these technologies have an impact on your company or your career? How? Which are you most excited about? Leave a comment

I don’t agree: the ubiquitous web is still far away (well, except for the Silicon Valley and south Corea, of course).
I think that we need another year before devices, applications, and bandwidth reach a tipping point to diffuse an ubiquitous web.
VoIP is definitively going to conquer the market, despite tariffs are still too high (and very profitable).
Virtual worlds (my speciality) are still too young, and I can forecast a large adoption between 2009 and 2010.
Best,
