(BEIJING, August 29) — A “sun-chasing” solar power generation system recently installed at the Chaoyang Park Beach Volleyball Ground will be the first such power generation system used at an Olympic venue.

The sun-chasing mechanism controls a rotating battery that switches according to where the sun shines, thereby maximizing the amount of solar power collected.

The completely automatic 11-kW sun-chasing solar power generation system measures 11 m high x 7 m wide, and the battery is capable of rotating 270 degrees. The system can generate 30% more power than the average solar power generation system.

With a lifespan of more than 25 years, the system can generate 72,000 kWh per year, with an average of 200 kWh per day. Moreover, it is environmental-friendly. As a solar energy power generation system, it produces 23.4 tons less carbon dioxide and 1.5 tons less sulfur dioxide emissions than regular generators.
