Move over, UN diplomats. There’s a new gang of peacemakers in town.
Earlier today the Boston Red Sox delayed the start of their game against the Toronto Blue Jays. They also threatened to leave a whole lot of empty seats on the Japan-bound plane scheduled to take them to their exhibition series.
All in the name of cold, hard cash.
But not for themselves. No, our noble players did it for their coaches. The players, per their union, were to snag $40,000 for the trip but the coaches and trainers were only to get $20K. The players said “nuh-uh, unfair,” staged the boycott, and hours later, all was made right. The Sox suits agreed to pay the difference and everybody was happy.
Everybody now: Awwwww.
As Seinfeld’s George Constanza would say, “Worlds are colliding, Jerry!” Really, did you think you’d see the day when people went to the U.S. Embassy to resolve Super Bowl issues and baseball players could solve economic disputes?
