Project Blog: Week One Challenge

It’s challenge time, and the gloves are off! (And that’s fine, because wearing them makes it hard to type anyway).

Project Blog host Allison Boyer posted the instructions on her Reality on Bravo blog, from which I quote:

On Project Runway, contestants were asked to create an outfit that showed who they are as designers. Bloggers, your challenge is equally simple – give us a post about why you do what you do. Why do you blog? Why do you blog about your particular subject? What sets your blog apart? How did you get started?

Wow, when you blog about sports dish in a snarky tone, the essence of the question becomes: “So, uh, you with the ‘tude, how did you become a smart aleck, anyway?”

Well, the earliest documented incident took place when I was five. Misbehavior during a road trip netted me an elbow-to-the-ribs reprimand, to which my father added, “How did that feel?”

“Great,” I deadpanned. Backseat laughter from my brothers ensued, and the rest is history.

More seriously—even though “seriously” and this blog go together about as well as Britney Spears and the word “classy”—I started blogging because opportunity rang the doorbell. (Hey, you didn’t think I was going to use a cliche in a Challenge Post, did you?) I’ve written a novel that I’m shopping around, and I’m networking with other writers and seeking out writing opportunities for exposure (the PG kind, not the Tara-Reid-red-carpet-oops! kind). That’s how I met Libby, a.k.a. The Snarkstress, who gave me a heads-up that b5 was launching a Sports Channel.

I originally applied for another sports blog (it, umm . . . rhymes with “Dennis”), but Channel Editor Kori Ellis hearted my writing style so much *pats self on back* that she gave me this blog–even though she’d planned to write it herself!

I love word play and testing my creative limits to see if I can be witty in writing. Combine that with a love of sports overall, especially the regional teams (see every post on the Red Sox and Patriots for reference), and you have one very happy blogger who wears her snark on her sleeve . . . with a wink.
