Viagra, Cialis, and Levitra, move over, there may just be a new kid in town next year or in 2011 if studies continue to go well. And, it claims to work better and faster than its older cousins.
The new medication, avanafil, is being studied in a trial called REVIVE (who said researchers don’t have a sense of humor?) and it’s the first of four final phase trials of the drug.
REVIVE is looking at if men were able to have intercourse after taking the medication. So far, the results are showing that 27% of the men who were taking the placebo (sugar pill) could have sex, while only 13% of them could before taking the
placebo. The number of men able to have sex rose to 41% among the men who took 50 mg of avanafil, also up from 13% before, while 57% were able to with 100 mg, and again, 57% were able to with 200 mg.
As with all medications, avanafil does have some as well, including headache, flushing and nasal congestion, not unlike the other medications used for erectile dysfunction.
