Promotions causing a stir

Today, I heard about two separate and unrelated baseball promotions taking place in the near future. One will happen tonight at the St. Paul Saints game. The Saints are well known for their wacky promotions and tonight’s does not surprise me at all.
The Saints are giving away a version of a bobblehead item, that is actually being called a “bobblefoot”. The lucky first 2,500 fans will receive an item recognizing National Tap Dance Day and an incident that took place in a Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport bathroom stall, involving Idaho Senator Larry Craig.
The “bobblefoot” is actually a miniature bathroom stall with a pair of lower legs and feet, on of which is actually spring loaded to tap. How do they come up with this stuff? You have to see the picture of the item. I’m sure you can own your own if you are a lucky bidder on Ebay after today’s game.

In other news, Major League Baseball is promoting the annual home run derby with a twist and it’s not making the New York Yankees very happy. MLB wants Boston Red Sox slugger David Ortiz to “call his shot”, paying homage to Babe Ruth in the last all-star game at Yankee Stadium.
Well, the Yankees are, of course, not happy by this promotion. They refuse to say it is because it involves a Red Sox player or because a Yankees player was not chosen. The Yankees and MLB are going to sit down and talk about the matter, but I’m sure Ortiz will still be the hitter. No reason to put Jason Giambi or Alex Rodriguez up there. I think Ortiz is a fine pick, but it’s going to get under people’s skin in the Bronx. You can count on that.

I also disagree, there is no reason for Ortiz doing this stunt. Giambgi is a good pick since he plays in the house that Ruth built.
The Yankees and their fans have every right to be put off by this…the All Star Game in the last season at Yankee Stadium.
It’s not for any lack of sense of humor…could you imagine Jeter being the centerpiece of the All Star Game at Fenway? They wouldn’t even allow the Fleet Center to be named “The Derek Jeter Center” for one single day…to benefit a charity!
