Protopages

Protopage is a new development in the web community that allows users to fully customize their homepages. The site is programmed using a significant amount of AJAX around a core of HTML, Java and CSS.

Protopages was originally developed by Andre Parrie as a way to bring his vast collection of bookmarks into the browser in an easily accessible grouping. Things expanded to the now version 2.0 release that allows you to add RSS feeds, news panels, weather, and all the other standard items you’d see in a personal portal page.

Amber MacArthur and Leo Laporte interviewed Andre on a previous episode of Inside the Net podcast. On that podcast, Andre shared that one of the interesting uses of Protopages was that a husband and wife would send notes to each other during their workday this way since neither one of them could use IM clients at work.

Another suggested way of using Protopage is for group collaboration on a project. The functionality allows notes to be saved and obviously collections of news articles and bookmarks.

So, if you’re interested in finding out a real-world example of how Web2.0 technology is going to look on the web and that types of functionality that’s encouraged by such developments, check out Protopage.

Just thought you might want to know that the first link, Protopages.com, is a different site than the other links, Protopage.com. I personally love Protopage and highly recommend it.

Thank you Jesse for catching that for me. I agree, Protopage is pretty slick.
