Pujols and Pineiro Lead Cardinals to Victor

Albert Pujols got the St. Louis Cardinals off to a good start and then Joel Pineiro’s pitching did the rest. Thanks to that duo. the Cardinals were able to defeat the New York Mets by a final count of 5-2.
In the first inning, Albert Pujols got an RBI on a sacrifice fly. In the third inning, Pujols hit an RBI single to put the Cardinals up 2-1. St. Louis would never trail again.
Pujols finished the outing by going 2-for-3 to lift his batting average to .315. He also has four homers and 18 RBI on the season.
In eight innings, Pineiro allowed six hits, two walks and two earned runs. He lowered his ERA to 4.12 and is now 3-0 on the season. The 30-year-old out of Puerto Rico is well on his way to winning double-digit games for the first time since 2003 with the Seattle Mariners.
With the win, the Cardinals are now 10-5, while the Mets are 6-8 after the loss.
