I only received 3 months of service and then I was told that our branch was closing Nov 24 but I would be transfered to another facility about 25 miles away. I told the director that I wanted my money back and she said that was not possible because I could go the another facility. Today I went and found that they had closed there doors on Jan 4th. I would like to know who has my records and my full amount refunded.

  2. LUCILLE O. says:

I SENT MY REFUND APPLICATION IN ON DECEMBER 26, 2007 AND STILL HAVE NOT HEARD ANYTHING ABOUT MY REFUND.

  3. d. dance says:

jan 25 2008 i just found out today bout pure weight lose has close down and they still owe me 25 bars. i havent receive any phone calls or nothing in the mail.

  4. sean says:

QUESTION: What is the dollar value per bar?

  5. L.A.Z. says:

dollar value per bar depends on what you paid per box, which varies as there were sales (discounts) offered a few times. You should have received receipts for purchases to determine price paid. I, too, sent in my refund app in early Dec but have not heard anything back as yet.

  6. sean says:

What is the approximate value – or range – per bar?

I’m trying to determine the dollar loss for commenters who say “They owe me 56 bars,” etc.

    Thanks

  7. jean says:

I think that they should owe us some sort of compensation too, for all the trouble we have to go thru to get our products. They owed me 52 Boxs of bars. I had to settle for what they gave me. I was told I had to take what they had left. I was in it for 6 weeks. They had to have known that they were going out of business.

  8. debbie says:

I sent my refund application in on Jan. 10 2008. I sent it certified and return receipt requisted. It was returned to me on Jan 25 stating it was not deliverable as addressed. It was the same address as was on the form. They owe me $255.20. If anyone finds out what next step we should take, please leave a comment. thanks

  9. L.A.Z. says:

I send mine to Pure Weight Loss, 747 Dresher Road, Suite 100, Horsham, PA 19044-2247 on 12/28/07 and have confirmation from USPS that it was delivered 1/31/07. However, I still have not heard anything back from PWL re: a refund or anything.

  10. P.C says:

I sent my refund form 3 weeks ago, I got no response and had the certified mail sent back to me saying it was undeliverable!! I called the post office to find out why they were unable to send it he said that they were not there anymore, so don’t waste your time with the refund form its just a run around giving you hope that you might get your money back, but will NOT!! I am very upset and it is terrible what they have done to so many people. What am I to do now in order to get my money back! Any suggestions?

  11. J.M. says:

I am owed hundreds of dollars by Pure Weight Loss and I am wondering if anyone knows how I could find my “Client ID#” to put on the refund application. Foolishly, I assumed my center would keep my records for me and I don’t remember where I put my contract when I signed up (and forked over well over $1000). I feel sick about all of this, especially since I am not sure if it will do any good to return the form if they are being sent back as “undeliverable.” Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks. Is there any kind of phone number available to call and get information?

  12. L.A.Z. says:

I didn’t have a contact number anywhere on my Registration Form, so I left it blank on the Refund App.

  13. sean says:

I posted the Care Credit form (as a sample) on this page, along with the refund request and links to all the Attorney Generals of all 50 states. Thanks, Brenda, for the CC form:

  14. J. Prather says:

first they left us high and dry, then they tell us to fill out this form for a refund, , only to have it “RETURN TO SENDER”, ‘UNABLE TO FORWARD’,

  15. J. Prather says:

first they left us high and dry, then they tell us to fill out this “form” for a refund, WHICH I DID, ( I’m sure all the clients did,) only to have it “RETURN TO SENDER”, “UNABLE TO FORWARD”, again the client of pure have been FLIM-FLAMED, HOODWINK and/or BAMBOOLZED or what ever you want to call it, it’s all the same SHAME ON YOU, SHAME, SHAME, SHAME.

  16. L. Pierson says:

I would like to know where my and my husbands files are. There is information in there that is private and confidential. Also I sent in my form on 12/17/2007 and have not heard a word. I want to know where is my money?

  17. sean says:

A Thought: Stay active and keep the pressure on all of these guys to do the right thing. Thanks for all the info and mutual support. Getting – and staying – at your target weight without them will be the sweetest revenge, won’t it?

  18. Kris Bruen says:

    FYI,
I sent my form in as soon as I was able to find them open before closing. I did get my return receipt back signed. (still not hopeful of getting my refund). I just wanted you all to know that I paid my care credit in full back in August and they told me since I paid in full there was no way I could dispute it. I said to them so if I had been delinquent I could have just refused not to pay. Of course then it would go on my credit as a bad debt. Yet AMEX was willing to dispute a portion of what I put on that card… So if you had paid anything with AMEX dispute dispute.

  19. Pzzd says:

Sent application in on 01/22/08, received envelope back today, 02/06/08. USPS states: Moved Left No Address. THESE PEOPLE ARE THEIVES!!!!!!!!!!!!

  20. Cassandra Lyn Bertolami says:

    Hello everyone!!
I am sharing in the frustration over Pure Weight Loss closing and abandoning its clients. I was given a voucher from my center with the amount of refund due to me. I mailed it in certified and yesterday is was return to me as tenant “MOVED – LEFT NO FORWARDING ADDRESS” I am DISGUSTED by the way they are handling (or not handling) this situation. All number I have for the company are either disconnected or ring with no answer.

  21. marisol says:

This is completely shocking. I just got my refund request back in the mail after having sent it out over 3 weeks ago. What’s going on here?! I called Care Credit, having bought boxes of lites with my care credit. They said that the only thing that I could do was to dispute the charges but that it would take 60 to 90 days. I have a balance of over $300 and the company owes me over $500 for products not delivered. Why on earth did they sell products when they knew they were closing and could NEVER deliver?! I feel completely taken. Anyone else try going through Care Credit for some help?

  22. Fran says:

I sent in a request to Pure Weight Loss to process a refund. The request was sent certified mail as the application states. The request form came back with a yellow label stating, “return to sender, not deliverable as addressed, unable to forward.” What are my next steps??? Do I contact my state attourney general??

  23. debbie says:

I called my state attorney general and they sent me a form to fill out. I dont know if it will do any good, but at least they have my name if they do decide to go after them. They are suppose to have something to do with the new drug alli ( I read this on the internet. true or not I dont know.) If so,they might be able to go after some of their profits from that.It cant hurt to have your name registered. The more names the better !!!!

  24. Michele says:

I was also shocked when they closed. I want my files back! They owe me about $1000! I submitted the refund form and it was also returned as “Return to sender/ undeliverable”! What a scam! I want a class action suit. Does anyone know who to contact?

  25. Kim says:

I sent my application in certified mail 01/02/08 and just rec’d it back as a unknown address two weeks ago. There is no contact phone number anywhere on the application nor the contract.

  26. J. Prather says:

has anyone heard anything from pureweight loss about giving clients credit?

  27. J. Valasa says:

I was on pregnancy hold with the company starting in March ‘07. I had my baby in November and in December I tried to log onto my account through the L.A. Weight Loss website and only then is when I discovered the company had changed it’s name and was closing it’s doors as of 1/4/08. I called the 800 # it then provided and they told me I would have to go into my center and fill out the application for a refund form and mail it in. The very next day I tried to go to my center but it was already closed and it gave an address of another one to go to which was almost a 45 minute drive for me. I drove to that location that same day just to find out that it too had already closed it’s doors. I called the 800# yet again to find out what to do and the rep who took the call e-mailed me the form. I mailed it out on 1/28/08 and it was returned to me while I was on vaction about a week later. When I went on pregnancy hold, I was told I could return back to the program 3 months after having the baby. I never once received a courtesy phone call or a letter in the mail before they closed allowing me to collect what was owed to me. Technically, I was still on pregnancy hold until 2/16/08 so if it hadn’t been for me trying to log onto my account, I would have not even known any of this. This is a total scam on their part. I will be looking into filing some type of claim against them to get my money back and to help any others to get their money back also. We all worked hard for the money we handed them and I hope they do not get away with this!!!!!!!!!!

  28. LUCILLE O. says:

AS STATED ABOVE (JAN, 22, 2008) I SENT IN A REQUEST FOR A REFUND ON DECEMBER 26, 2007 AND AS OF THIS DATE HAVE NOT HEARD FROM THEM. I THINK WE ALL SHOULD GET TOGETHER TO FILE A CLASS ACTION SUIT AGAINST THEM.

  29. J. Valasa says:

I was reading further into this and according the Better Business Bureau, Pure Weight Loss filed Chapter 7 Bankruptcy on 1/11/08.

  30. Karyn says:

I received refund forms from my Pure weight loss center. When I sent it in the response was moved, no forwarding address. During the last week they were open the women had said to send one refund to pure weight loss and one to the attorney general. She said alot of people were bringing up suits and the attorney general stepped into help. So far I only sent it to pure weight loss but I am now going to send it to the attorney general.

  31. L.A.Z. says:

I got official notice today from United States Bankruptcy Court, Eastern District of Pennsylvania that PWL has filed Chapter 7 bankruptcy. There is a 6/12/08 deadline for filing proof of claim. You may obtain a proof of claim form at http://www.paeb.uscourts.gov or by visiting any bankruptcy clerk’s office. It’s Case #08-10315-jkf, Philadelphia, PA. Address of the Bankruptcy Clerk’s Office: 900 Market St #400, Philadelphia, PA 19107. Phone: 215-408-2800. I’m doing it!!

  32. M&M says:

Let me first say, I worked as a manager for LA Weight Loss in California. I have read all the complaints. You are in the right to be upset. I left the company after a year and a half because the customers and the employees were getting ripped off. They didn’t pay the employees overtime or give lunches (a law here in CA)
I sued and WON! Someone PLEASE start a Class Action Suite against them. They need to have all the money they mad out of pure selfishness to be taken from them. Hurry before it’s too late!
BTW: I received the Bankruptcy letter also.

  33. Susan says:

I too mailed in a refund application by certified mail and I received it back – no forwarding address. They owe me for 12 boxes of lites. What are we to do now???

  34. Lynne in PA says:

What a shock it was to receive a bankrupcy letter in the mail about LA Weight Loss. I am owed a total of 54 weeks. In late November I received a call saying for $50.00 I could regain all of my unused time and start again. I jumped at the chance. Well now I see it was not such a great deal. No one even called me a few weeks later to say come in and get your bars. Maybe it would have been a good idea to trust my instincts that when they changed there name that things were not going well with the company.

  35. Nicole in Ca says:

Well i started going there in July of 07 i paid using the care credit the total cost was 394.00 i made it clear with them that, that was for everything they told me yes. When i got the bill from care credit they had charged me 1600.00 when i called to ask them why they said oh thas for your la lites i was so mad. i said 1600.00 for these stupid bars . after that i did not go back and it was too late to get a refund. i had heard they closed the location i was going to but i figured they moved. it wasnt untill i got the bankrupcy letter in the mail that i knew they had closed for good. i filled out papers to get refunded but have not heard anthing let me know if you all hear anything thanks

  36. J. Prather says:

I’m still very disappointed, has anyone received a refund yet?

  37. L.A.Z. says:

NO ONE is going to receive a refund. They’ve filed bankruptcy. I got and have already returned a bankruptcy claim notice.

  38. Lynne in PA says:

I must agree with L.A.Z. no one is going to get a refund. I’m sure all of our money is having fun without us on a warm beach somewhere. Maybe we can get some revenge with the bankruptcy claim notice. It will be interesting to watch the owners and cheats of this company squirm a little.

  39. Linda in DE says:

No one is going to get a refund. They have filed bankruptcy. I filed my bankruptcy claims but I am sure there are other folks ahead of us who have larger dollar claims (banks, etc.) which means we will probably see nothing.

  40. gretchen in IN says:

LA owes me $1100.00 for products. I filed the backruptcy form back in March and haven’t heard anything yet.

  42. jean says:

I called care credit and explained what the problem was. They sent me a form to fill out and send back to them. You have to provide receipts for your purches. I made copies and kept the originals. I spent about 1100.00. They refunded me 627.00. I had 2 different charges on my bill. I paid off the first one. They said they couldn’t refund me that because it was already paid off. You only have 15 days from the date of the letter so get it sent in right away.

  44. Diane says:

I do not understand why Pure weight loss was allowed to open up under a different name. Somewhat of the same situations happened under the name L A weight loss.

I paid for the program (signed up in Late spring of 2004) and end up getting sick and having several surgeries and continuted to inform (updating them) L A weight loss about my health condition. I was informed at that time in the fall of 2004 by Jan the manager during that period (which I noticed that they had a revolving door with employees, but was not sure of what was going on with the company) that I could restart the program over and nothing would change with my plan and that it was no need to stop my monthly deductions since I would not be losing anything.

However, I also gave her a note from my doctor questioning, why she was not informed about the food prodcuts being offered in their program, before she as my physcian ok’d me to be on the diet plan. After, Jan read the note from my doctor she convinced me that several items offered in the plan would not be required (L A lights, etc.) for me to have on the plan and also that I would be Guaranteed to keep the program that I signed up for without any extra charge and there was no need for me to cancel the auto monthly payment.

I continued to follow up (on a monthly basis) at the Schaumburg office in Illinois with the Medcial Tech. (Nikkie) due to her being the only person of the office that remianed to work their and knew my medical history situation. Later, I learned that the Med. Techs. of the company where layed off during the early spring of 2007, since that postion was being eliminated.

I followed up with the present manager (Tytiana) and she told me that I would need to restart the program over again in paying for it as well. I explained to her what I was told by one of the ex managers and also the med. tech (Nikkie) that I had 52 weeks left. She said no you do not have any weeks lefts, that time ran out. I explained that I was not in the program due to having many, many, surgeries and I was given this permission by one of the previous managers and that I continuted to inform L A weight loss about my condition and was always being told your weeks are still there.

The last time I was in their office the last week of 06/2007, after calling the headquarters several times I was required and referred to meet with Jill the head manager of the area in Illinois. I met with Jill during the week of July 4th 2007 (before the holiday) and she asured me that I would get my complete 52 weeks back and there was not any other fee for me. She stated that all she needed was updated information regarding my medical condition (i signed a release form to send to my doctor). Jill said, that she would be in contact with me soon (in about 7 business days) once the report from my doctor was returned back to their office. I followed up with my doctor to see if any health inquiry was sent to her from L A weight loss for me and she told me she has not received any type of inquiry from L A weight loss.

I tried calling Jill the area manager time after time (two weeks after the 4th of July 2007)and also the headquarters again and never could get anyone to answer the phone at that time. I noticed about three weeks later that the name had been changed to Pure weight loss, even thou the name changed, I found out it was the same company, I tried to contact someone by phone numbers of the L.A. weight loss but the numbers where disconnected. To this day no one from that company has ever followed up or tried to contact me in any way (by phone, mail, no contact at all). It seems like the attorney general of all states should really go after this company. How where they allow to stay in business, and keep doing the same things to consumers that started while in business under the name L.A. weight loss. I would actually like my money, because really my program should have been cancelled, once I started to experience health issues, and a note was also received from my doctor to their office, and I had many surgeries during that period. If there is anyone out there that can help with this matter, please contact me.

    Regards,
    Diane W. (Illinois)

    Response to Diane

I too experience very similiar as you discussed in your blog. I had to put almost $5,000 up front for my program due to the insistance of the rep starting my program.. She would not take no I really don;t what all the product. She called me every day at home and on my cell just hounding me. Finally I gave in because I really did think the program would work. But life happens and you can not always work the program.. There should be no time limit on our program usage. We paid for it we should be able to put it on hold and have it work for us. And we should be able to hold those staff members who knew the truth and who did not disclose accountable for their part in this sham. I am more than mad. I want to get my money back and take action against those who did not act with fudiciary responsibilty to their clients. I never received a call, e-mail or any letters fromthe company. I was very ill when the it hit the news. I went in in January 2008 and spoke with them and again in April and was assured over and over that everything was okay. They lost my files. Imagine that how convenient. We all need to get a class action together and include every one who had knowledge. I don’t know about you but I am so tired of Corporate America getting away with ripping us off at every turn. Enough is enough!

  46. Julie says:

Has anyone been successful in receiving a refund? If so, please advise what to do! I am out $237!
