Push Comes to Shove For This Freelance Writer

No matter what the writing project, there comes a moment when we have to submit it. After all, the work can’t be accepted, can’t be published, and we can’t get paid for a piece of writing until we declare it finished and send it on its way.

I’m in email talks with a new agent and the moment just came for me on a book proposal. Per instructions, I attached the proposal to an email and sent it on its way. But I must admit I hesitated. Perhaps, I thought, I should re-read it again… maybe I can make it better… maybe I should wait until next Monday or Tuesday.

I’ll bet you know the feeling. Yet I know it’s as good as it’s going to get. Oh sure, there are probably a few typos, although I’ve combed through it over and over again, but some always seem to slip through. Maybe I should have handled the formatting a bit differently, yada yada yada. I can always think of a reason not to move forward! Fortunately, I have learned to ignore that fear-based part of me that wants to delay and delay.

Now that I think about it, I’m glad I sent it. It’s out of my hair. The agent will either love it or hate it or something in between. But I’ve taken the next step, and that’s what’s important to me right now.

Write well and often,
