QA Man Reports on His Own Blog’s First Year’s Performance

Tom Vander Well is a blogger and a quality assessment (QA) expert. So maybe it was inevitable that he would apply some of his QA skills to reviewing his own QAQnA blog’s performance as at the anniversary (”blogiversary”) of its launching.
He provides some data for the past year and – suitably for a QA guy – includes data on quality, not just on quantity measures. For example, as well as noting that the blog’s Technorati ranking has gone from 1.2 million to 31,000, he provides a return on investment (ROI) analysis which includes such unquantified but (for me anyway) useful assessments as: “The value of networking, increased web traffic, and exposure is hard to calculate, but can’t be dismissed”.
As a counterpoise to the exhortations I see sometimes for people to post two or three times a day if they want their site to be successful, Tom’s approach, summed up in his self-described mantra is “slow and steady wins the race”.
The post is a useful reference for anyone beginning their business blog and for anyone who has begun but whose enthusiasm for the task may be flagging.

Hey Des! I’m with you that Tom did a great job explaining the value his blog has added to his business. Here’s my favorite bit from a business blogging perspective:
Tom constantly provides top notch pointers that can help most any business. Well worth a spot in most business people’s feed readers.
Tom is a great guy and he has a great blog. I’ve experienced similar results to him with a harder to measure ROI.
Thanks for the kind words and the link, Des. I’m glad that the recap was helpful for you. Thanks also to Chris and Douglas for the kind words!
