Quake II has landed on the DS

Quake II hits the Nintendo DS

The DS is indeed the handheld system for FPS, thanks to its control scheme that’s similar to the precision given by the PC’s mouse and keyboard combo. Aside from that, the homebrew people are going nuts porting all sorts of games into the diminutive Nintendo gadget.

You’ll never believe the new homebrew port for the DS: Quake II. Want to know more? Read the details after the jump.

According to the app’s site, Quake2DS has been in the works for a long time, but the game is finally working. Yes, every single level within the game can be loaded and played in single-player mode. However, there’s still no Wi-Fi multiplayer. So the hell what?

There are even custom ARM7 sound effects in the port. What’s more, it uses spatial positioning!

Like anything that sounds too good to be true, there’s a catch. To play Quake II on your DS, you must have a supported slot-2 flash card that contains a minimum of 16MB of RAM.

Since I use the older SuperCard (yes, it’s for slot 2, but it’s old), I’m not sure if I would be able to run Quake II on my DS. To make matters worse, I’m too cheap to get any of the more recent flash cards. Thus, I leave it to you, dear reader, to tell me how Quake2DS is like. You’re even welcome to write a review about it. Just email me and I would gladly print your article if I like it enough. Of course, expect your work to be edited (yes, I am a grammar Nazi).

And no, I won’t pay you. You do get bragging rights, however.
