Ready to Go Back to Las Vegas

Las Vegas is a magical place.  I’ve been twice and it has certainly grown on me.  I can see why so many people willingly flock to Nevada to dump their money.  The scenery is amazing and you can place a bet at any time.  I certainly wouldn’t want to live there, but its a great place to spend 5 days a year if you’ve got the extra cash.

And for my readers, you would love the poker tables.  Tourists love to sit down at the big poker table and try to be like the people they see on TV.  There are enough that have little to no idea (or don’t care) as to what they’re doing for you to make some nice change on.

During my last trip, a very drunk Canadian guy was happily tossing his money in every direction.  I picked up about $350 in 2 hours at that table.  Most of it was from him.  I had played poorly otherwise, so it was certainly a welcome change.  During my first trip, there was another player who I took $100s off of.  It could have been $1000+ but I misplayed a few hands.

These are the people you want to play against.  Of course, you have to be able to withstand any bad beats or lucky hands, but if you can, some people can easily toss around a few grand and not care.  They just want to play.

As fun as Vegas was, I don’t recommend it for every card player.  You have to be able to walk away from the table.  You also can’t use it as a way to generate primary income.  If you do, you’ll probably go broke.  Vegas is a place where you can lose $5,000 in a heartbeat.  In fact, I watched one guy walk up to a roulette table and drop $3,000 in a matter of two minutes.  This is while I was standing there.  He put $1,000 on black fives times and only hit on 2 of them.

I remember stupidly asking his girlfriend if he was good.  She reciprocated my unintelligble question by saying usually.  There is no such thing as being “good” at roulette.  You’re either lucky or you aren’t.  I like playing though because of all the dumb luck games in Vegas, it gives you the best chance at winning.

Below are some pictures from one of my stays.  I wished I had taken more from the poker area.
