Gary Reed has won the Canadian 800-metre championship for the fifth time in six years with a time of 1:45.61 seconds.  The 26-year-old runner from Victoria, British Columbia has secured a spot on the Canadian Olympic track-and-field roster as did Achraf Tadili of Montreal, who finished in second place with a time of 1:46.25.

Reed, who is making his second Olympics appearance, had this to say: “I am going back with a whole different mindset and I am looking forward to it. I have a little more understanding of the sport and what I need to do when I get there.”

It’s an incredible feat to make it to the Games more than one time so I’m hoping all of his wisdom leads him to victory – good luck, Reed!
