Resistence Is Futile

The other day I was talking to a friend who is buying a new PC. She is buying from Dell, so she was given the choice. Windows XP or Windows Vista?

"Which should I choose?" she asked.

"Just buy a Mac!"

I know there are a ton of "good" reasons not to switch to Mac, but there are a ton more great reasons to switch to Mac. So before I give you my top 5 reasons to switch to Mac, let’s here what you think. And to be fair to the Windows users who may have stopped by, let’s here your top reasons to stick with PC and/or switch to Vista.

  1. Juan says:

One good reason to switch to a Mac is the ability to run both major OSes in one machine. It’s like buying 2 computers for the price of one.

  2. @Hamilton – I am guessing you mean games as a reason to stay on PC rather than switch. Personally, I am not much of a gamer, so I never considered it, but currently there aren’t many games for Mac. That seems to be changing, though, and Juan’s comment about running Windows and OSX means you can dual boot and run your PC games when you want to and live in OSX for life/productivity.

  3. Blountman says:

Switch to a Mac because PC is number two (and every kid in America knows what “number two” is)!

  4. MacBlountman says:

You should switch to Mac because PC is “number two.” Every kid in America knows what “number two” is. *grin*

  5. @Chris – I sit down corrected :-)

  6. @hamilton – don’t get me wrong, here. If I were a gaming fan I would probably lean towards a PC, at least for games.. There is nothing wrong with using the right tool for the right job. Personally, I would dual boot my Mac,. Soon, that won’t be as big of an issue as I think more developers will pick up Mac versions of their games as more users get onto the platform. For now, though, that is one of the few reasons I see for sticking to the PC.

    Question, though… XP or Vista?

  7. @Chris – No worries I perfectly understand where you’re coming from.

I forget that Macs are running on the X86 architecture now, that it is now possible to dual boot OSX and Windows and that last year CNET proclaimed that the fastest windows laptop is a Mac :-)

I am a casual gamer so I make do with dual booting my current rig for games. I use XP for games and I use OpenSUSE for work.

Although, if I were a hard core gamer right now with lots of cash to burn, a Mac would be farthest from my thoughts/choices.
