The Graphic Arts Center Publishing company started coming out with a great book series a few years ago aimed at travellers who would be living abroad, not just spending a night. Published under the title “Culture Shock!” and “Culture Shock: At Your Door” this series of books provides not only historical and cultural background about countries and cities but also helpful hints for managing your day to day life when you move to a new place.

The cities included in the series are:

  • Barcelona
  • Beijing
  • Chicago
  • Havana
  • Hong Kong
  • Jakarta
  • Jerusalem
  • Kuala Lumpur
  • London
  • Moscow
  • Munich
  • New York
  • Paris
  • Rome
  • San Francisco
  • Tokyo
  • Vancouver

The country list is even longer. Check out gacpc for a complete list.

Hi Shane, When you get the Tokyo book, please let me know if it was helpful or not. Have fun in Japan!
