Ricky Gervais Will Host Golden Globes

Ricky Gervais will be hosting the Golden Globe Awards this year and it’s either going to be a hilarious success or an awkward night. I personally really like him from his work on Extras and, of course, as the creator of the original version of The Office but I know that his brand of humor isn’t for every one.
Since he was the late Princess Diana’s favorite comedian (or at least one of them), he was invited to perform at her massive memorial service at Wembley Stadium a couple years ago.
After his segment was over, he was told that he needed to kill more time and he went unscripted. He was flustered and began swearing and saying inappropriate things (funny, but not quite right for the occasion) and even launched into a song about someone getting killed. Yeah… It was interesting.
I find that people are too critical on hosts of these awards shows anyway, especially if the host is British (the humor can be a tad off-color for American audiences) but the Golden Globes haven’t had a host since 1995 so I think it’s time to give it a shot.
I’m looking forward to it. I normally wouldn’t watch the Golden Globes but I’ll probably tune in just to see Gervais. Will you be watching?
