Rob Parker resigns over Marinelli daughter comment

NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.
Oh, what to make of this?

Rob Parker of the Detroit News resigned over making a rude comment about Rod Marinelli’s daughter.

Here is the scene of the crime. The Lions lost again (Oh, you knew that part.) and Rob Parker is at a Coach Rod Marinelli press conference. Every week Rob asked Marinelli about firing his son in law who was one of the more worthless Lions assistant coaches. Every week Marinelli would say no. Finally to be funny, Rob asked if Marinelli thought his daughter should have married a better defensive co-coordinator.

Ouch!

According to Rob, Marinelli understood it was a joke and took it well, but his public response sounded like he did not take it well.

Parker has a habit of asking the taboo questions in Detroit sports anyway and always taking the controversial side of various issues. He felt that it was misconstrued. He still feels that it did not bother Marinelli, but that Rod wanted to be sure the national media understood he was protecting his daughter.

The paper was not happy, but around here in Michigan, most people shrugged it off. First off, it was Parker. Second off, they should have fired his son in-law.

The comment did come out rude, though.

Parker did apologize, right up front.
