In the social media world we often talk about how to handle a PR crisis instigated by bloggers, but what about traditional journalists (newspapers, TV, etc)? You know the standard investigative report that reveals your company is making your product by shaving baby goats and using the fur for stuffing while they freeze. This is what is generally known as "bad press". Don’t forget I used to work for big pharma, I know bad press.
Next week in Vancouver CNW is sponsoring a breakfast with journalist and visiting professor of journalism at UBC to talk about how to manage (or just plain survive) this kind of crisis:
Join CNW for breakfast with Robert Cribb, one of Canada’s top investigative reporters, for a look at how journalists research in-depth stories and how organizations can respond to potential public relations nightmares. Learn the kinds of questions journalists are likely to ask, and how your reactions can impact the outcome — for better or worse. Source: CNW Group – Vancouver Event
Oh you think tech companies don’t need this? Remember Electronic Arts and the allegations that they pretty much work their programmers, etc to the brink? Yeah not fun.
I’m not over on the Mainland that day, so if any of you attend, let me know. Live blog it … and I’ll link for sure!
