Robin Williams Doing HBO Special

HBO has announced that Robin Williams will be taping his first solo standup special since December 2002. The performance will be from his upcoming national tour and I’m very interested in seeing it. I’ve always been a fan of his and it’s incredible to me that after all this time (his first HBO appearance was in 1977), he’s just as energetic and relevant as he ever was.
The special, Robin Williams: Weapons of Self-Destruction will be filmed at Washington, D.C. in November and is set to air sometime in December. With a title like that, you can expect it to touch on some very sensitive issues.
I think it’s great, though, when people can use humor to raise awareness about some of the social and governmental problems were are all facing. It’s far better than fighting and I think the point comes across just as strongly.
The first time I ever saw Williams do a stand-up style show was one of the HBO Comic Relief charity specials that he did with Whoopi Goldberg and Billy Crystal. If you haven’t seen any of them (there are nine), I encourage you to look them up.
