Rod Marinelli never to be head coach again

NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.
As a former coach of the Lions, you have to realize that you are lucky to just get another coaching job. Unless you were an interim coach like Dick Jauron, there is a special curse for you that will keep you from ever coaching in the NFL ranks again.
Just try and name another Lions head coach in the NFL? There aren’t any.
One has to also keep in mind that Rod lost all 16 games in his last year. That puts him in with some pretty special company, namely, well, uhh…Rod. Yeah, he is in there all alone.
Not totally unscathed. He’ll never be a head coach in the NFL again, so you can’t say that he escaped without a mark. That’s kind of a tough realization to have – that you’ll never again have the job that you most covet. We’ll never know how much is on him (although that was his favorite quote as Lions coach. “It’s on me.”), but no NFL team could ever justify hiring the coach who went 0-16. Just like Alan Trammell will have a hard time ever getting a managing job after losing 119 games.
Goodbye and good luck Rod Marinelli.
