Roddy White is 50 Million rich

If you looked around the NFL last year and had to guess which team would really surprise you the Atlanta Falcons would probably not be on that list. They had a rookie quarterback, for gosh sakes, and their running back was a former back up. You don’t win with that sort of team. Even my Lions were favored to beat them. That is when you know you are bad.

Turns out they were the surprise of the NFL and one of the reasons was the passing combination of rookie quarterback Matt Ryan to 4th year receiver Roddy White. The Falcons went on to make the playoffs and Roddy White went on to make the Pro Bowl with his second year in a row of over 80 catches and a career high of over 1,300 yards receiving.

Now Roddy White has his reward, a big fat contract that will keep him rich for a long time. The rumor is 6 years and over 50 million bucks with 18 mill guaranteed. That does not exceed Larry Fitzgerald’s 10 million plus per year, but it is a bigger overall contract. Not bad for a Falcon.

The signing of White was extremely important to the continued growth of second-year quarterback Matt Ryan and the offense. Last season, Ryan threw 34 percent of his pass attempts in White’s direction as he guided the team to an 11-5 record and playoff appearance.

White turned in a spectacular season in 2008, setting a franchise record with 1,382 yards and earning his first Pro Bowl trip. It was White’s second consecutive 1,000-yard receiving season.
