Roger Federer is starting off 2009 with a bang. To say he is pumped about this upcoming tennis season is an understatement. Federer is playing the most he ever has in January.
Federer has an exhibition in Abu Dhabi this week and will meet up against two of his main rivals, world No. 1 Rafael Nadal and Scottish player Andy Murray.
After this tournament, he will meet Nadal and Murray once again at the Qatar Open, followed by the Kooyong Classic. That’s 3 tournaments before the Australian Open, which is the most preparation he has ever had.
On his personal website, Roger Federer stated, “Never before have I started a tennis year as early as the one ahead. There is such a large number of challenges lying ahead. Facing them, working hard and giving my best to succeed is precisely why I love my job so much.”
Last year, at this same time, Federer had mono and didn’t know it. It affected his 2008 season. From the sounds of it, he is healthy and ready to have one awesome season. I can not wait to see how he delivers on the court.

well, since he had such a “horrible” 2008 (1, slam title, 2 slam finals and 1 slam semifinal) and no masters shields he has almost nowhere to go but up, especially in early 2009.
