zumasportswest202709-20081119-jab-c32-roger-federer Roger Federrer has cut back his 2009 clay court schedule. He will only play 2 clay court tournaments before the French Open, which is the only Grand Slam tournament he has never won. He lost the 2008 French Open to Rafael Nadal.

This year, Federrer played 4 clay court tournaments ahead of the French Open, which included: Estoril, Portugal; Monte Carlo; Rome; and Hamburg, Germany.

In 2009 Federrer will play on a clay court, his least favorite surface, in Rome and Madrid and will then head to Paris on May 24th. Federrer said that he is "really pleased with the season the way we have planned it and I am looking forward to an exciting year".

Federer’s agent, Tony Godsick, has said that Federrer will play a 2009 season that works for him physically. He went on to say, "He is not going to overplay next year. He is just going to try to make sure that he peaks for the tournaments that mean the most to him."
