Roy Williams – Is Lions receiver among the best?

NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.

Roy Williams gives the Lions some needed swagger

Indianapolis Colts v Detroit Lions

The Detroit Lions are a brutal team to follow. They lose and lose and lose again.

Some years they start out winning like last year and then lose and lose again.

The Lions need Roy Williams. He is brash. He talks and talks and talks again. Sometimes he will say that he will score two touchdowns in a game. Maybe he does and maybe he doesn’t, but at least Roy does not hang his head.

Now the Lions have teamed him up with all potential Calvin Johnson. The Lions offense will be more balanced this year with much more running. This should actually help the passing game become more of a deep threat.

Roy is coming off of an All Pro year and when asked about whether Roy and Calvin can be the best two receivers in football, Roy kind of stopped the brash talk and got serious.

But he remains cautious when asked whether he and Johnson can become one of the NFL’s more accomplished duos.

“Right now, I feel like Marvin (Harrison) and Reggie (Wayne) are the standard-bearers,” Williams says of his Indianapolis Colts counterparts. “I would love to put us up there, but you’ve also got T.J. (Houshmandzadeh) and Chad (Johnson) in the mix with the (Cincinnati) Bengals.

“As for us, we need to prove ourselves as a duo. But we do pose a threat. On paper. So we’ll see.”
