RSS icon is standardized!

The standard feed iconThere has been a “big” discussion going on in the RSS community, so hold your horses! Microsoft was in the process of figuring out what icon to use on our toolbar in IE7 to represent feeds. It would be orange, that much was clear. But how would it look? Well, I’m excited to tell you that MS is adopting the icon used in Firefox! Say what?!? Yep, with this icon currently in Firefox and set to appear in Internet Explorer 7 next year, it will quickly become the standard user experience for feeds on the Web. Web designers are being advised to begin using it instead of the familiar (non-standard) RSS-icon and XML-icon icons.

“I’m equally excited to announce that Outlook 12 will be using the same icon to represent RSS throughout the product. We are going to be building the new icon into Outlook over the next few weeks, and think it’s going to be a great way for users to see the synergy that exists between Outlook 12 and IE 7.”
