RSS startup gets $9 million

December 7, 2005 by admin

This Monday it was announced that a $9-million investment was made in Attensa, a software company developing a web syndication or RSS network. Attensa spokesperson Scott Niesen said RSS Investors ponied up $5 million, with the remainder coming from SmartForest Ventures and other smaller early investors. Attensa and RSS Investors said the technology can help companies use RSS as a tool for their employees.

Attensa has been offering a free Outlook version of its RSS Reader since last February, which the company says 100,000 people have downloaded. Attensa will offer an updated Outlook version for $19.99 per year as well as a mobile version for an annual subscription of $39.99. I think this will be a tough deal! And it will also have to compete with other companies like market leader NewsGator (via redherring.com).
